The latest problem in quality that is troubling the number one car maker in the world, Toyota involves faulty engines to fix which Toyota is going to recall as many as 138000 Lexus vehicles according to a statement released on Friday. According to Toyota, there were some flaws in the valve springswhich could cause the stalling of the vehicle when in motion. On the same lines, it would file paperwork with thegovernment for the recall scheduled next week.
The models that have been recalled include 2008 LS600hL, LS460 etc. The vehicle models from 2009 and 2010 haven’t been involved in any injuries. This was on the back of Toyota’s announcement in Japan that it will recall as many as 270,000 vehicles around the world. As many as 7 Lexus luxury sedans including the Crown sedan which was sold mostly in Japan will be affected by the recall. The 270,000 includes 90,000 cars sold in Japan and 180,000 cars sold in US.
According Hideaki Homma, who is the spokesman for Toyota, there were around 200 complaints received in Japan alone. The Toyota engines as per the complaints of many drivers, made a strange noise. Although the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn’t received any official notification for the recall, the company has said it will file the recall notification next week.
According to Toyota, owners of the cars will receive a notification of recall via mail while the repairs of the engine valve springs will be done by the dealers for no extra charge. Toyota also said that drivers can continue driving their cars and if they observe any problems like rough idling or vibration they could take it to the dealers for any repair.
Some Lexus SUVs also had problems with software that controls electronic stability. Over the last few months Toyota has recalled as many as 8 million vehicles for varying reasons that include acceleration not intended, anti-lock brake software and other safety issues.
